My Review:

Wow!!! Amazing Continuation to Book 1 of the Sloan Brothers.

Calia made me love the character I disliked so much in book 1. I saw a whole new side to Macsen & I loved him! This story picked up after book 1 & took off in the complete opposite direction I was expecting. At the conclusion of book 1, I expected things to take off in a completely different direction so this was a great surprise.

Calia brings Emilia into book 1 and towards the end, I felt like the was going to be villain with horrible motives. I was right & wrong. Per the synopsis, we know that she has a list of people she's getting revenge on. I won't go into full detail because I hate marking my reviews as containing spoilers. LoL Let's just say, she has the motive and I can't say that I blame her. Although, it takes a while for you to learn what her sister did and why, it takes you by storm when revealed. I felt horrible for Emilia. :(

With that being said, it's hard to write a really detailed review. >_< I don't want to let you in on the surprises!!

Okay so the plot moves steadily... I loved the ups and downs. I honestly wasn't expecting the truth that came out. I was completely taken by surprise. Nothing led me to think that this person was the one who did...well, the bad thing that they talk about throughout the book. Sorry for being vague. :)

I adored the characters & I'm glad that Thayer, Seb & Chris are in this novel still.

The love scenes were hottttt & I'm so glad that the V-card didn't take front & center. It was a nice change!

I can't wait to see what else Calia does!!!!

Cover Rating: 5 Stars - I love the new cover but I really liked the other version too, LoL

My Review:

So I adored this novel. It's taken me a few days to get on here and write my full review. I'm still thinking about the world that Whelan built. I loved the creativity of this book.

It took me a little bit longer to read this entire novel compared to my average reading time... I think a few things may have contributed to this... It started off a tad slow before it began picking up. The other thing is the expanse of creativity. You take it in bits and pieces because you have to let it sink in. It's amazing & leaves you saying "woah."

I enjoyed the characters but my only downfall was my annoyance with the main character falling in "love" at the snap of a finger. I had to overlook that little aspect because, well, I'm a realist. Lust/attraction/intrigue - Yes. Love - No way. Later in the novel, I can understand the "Love" but not until really close towards the end.

I enjoyed the ups and downs throughout the novel but my favorite thing, and I can't really talk about it enough, was the creativity! Oh My Gosh! I want to travel to this world! I want to see the creatures (not be picked up and carted off by one though >_<) and travel in one of their vehicles!!! Eeek! So awesome!!!!! Honestly, if you like to escape to a new world, GET THIS NOVEL. Definitely worth it!

The only downfall, the one part that was a tad annoying, was the insta-love - Otherwise, the novel was great!

I really look forward to following A.B. Whelan from this point forward. This is the first novel I've read by Whelan and really hope to read more soon.

Overall Rating: Solid 3.5 Stars
Cover Rating: 4 Stars - It took me a bit to realize what I was looking at - total blond moment - when I realized it, I felt like a total dummy LOL I loved the connection to the story!

 My Review:

 I adored this new series!

Sam, poor Sam, thinks she's getting lucky when the guy who she's crushed on for a while draws her near and gives her a toe curling, mind numbing, drool worthy Kiss. He then gets up, apologizes and calls her a "Kid"... Can you say "um excuse me?" She ended up losing her soul & only finds out later what's really going on...

The best way that I can think to describe the Grays - those that steal souls by kissing.... they're like the PG version of succubus demons...

Then we have the team sent by Heaven & Hell to get rid of this little gray problem & find out who's pulling the strings & why. I absolutely adored Bishop, Kraven & the rest of the crew.

I fell in love with the characters (the good guys of course) and hated the villain - I loved the twists & turns too... You think you know all about them, what they're really like, but you are thrown a few times because they begin to grow as individuals & choose new paths.

The plot moves really smoothly, the action is great, the emotional attachment to the characters leaves you scrunching your nose & biting your lip, and the evolution of the character's keeps you attached.

I adored the creativity of this story. I could honestly see this series being a great movie if it was done right!

I adored BOTH of the covers! I love the style!!

Review: Scarlette by Davonna Juroe

Scarlette
by Davonna Juroe
YA Fantasy/Paranormal/Fairy Tale
Published October 12, 2012 by BumbleB Media, Inc.
*Ebook obtained in exchange
for an honest review as part of the tour*

Synopsis via Goodreads:

What if Little Red Riding Hood was real?

Ninety years before the Brothers Grimm penned their version of Little Red Riding Hood, a historic, gruesome series of events shocked all of Europe. In 1765, an unidentified wolf-like animal ferociously mauled dozens of peasants in the Gévaudan region of France.

Whispered rumors of unnatural creatures blended with age-old superstition, causing mass hysteria, and a werewolf was blamed for the carnage. Alarmed, King Louis XV sent his best huntsmen to rid the province of the beastly scourge, but this legendary massacre had only just begun.

Scarlette, an 18-year-old peasant, lives under this dark threat, knowing the nightmarish monster lurks in the surrounding forest. A poor seamstress, she labors to make ends meet and is skeptical of supernatural gossip.

Until her grandmother survives an attack.

Scarlette learns her grandmother is infected by the bite of the animal. Desperate to save her, Scarlette begins to uncover the dark secrets of her village and finds there are those who wish to keep their pasts hidden. As time grows short, Scarlette is befriended by a local nobleman and a woodcutter who share an eerie history with the wolf.

To save her grandmother, Scarlette must unravel the mens' connection and solve a long-forgotten crime. But as she pieces together the clues, Scarlette finds herself torn between the two men, both of whom desire more than friendship and together hold the key to the cure.

Based on both the traditional Grimm and Charles Perrault versions of Little Red Riding Hood, this dark YA is set against the Beast of Gévaudan attacks, blending history with fairy tale and gothic romance. Unique to the genre, the novel revives the French fable of the girl-in-the-red-cloak with a new, shockingly real existence that blurs the line between folklore and reality.

About the Author:
Davonna Juroe stays up way too late, has a severe garlic food allergy, and loves all things 80’s. She wonders if all this could actually mean she's a vampire.

In high school, she wore way too much glitter eye make-up. And in between many Disneyland visits and reading R.L. Stine’s Fear Street Series, she joined the high school drama department and may have developed crushes of the serious kind on many a theater boy. After many a broken heart (*sigh*), Davonna moved to the quaint, wooded village of Kalispell, Montana.

When she’s not writing, she shops @ thrift stores for hot-pink-Jem-and-the-Holograms-inspired-outfits, eats gluten free desserts, drinks tea out of antique teacups, and spends too much time on deviantArt, Pinterest, and Goodreads.

Scarlette is Davonna’s debut novel of epic-historical-fairy-tale-proportions, which she knows the Brothers Grimm would say is wicked cool.

Currently, she's represented by fabulous independent agent Roxanne McHenry who is waving wands to make all of Davonna's dreams come true

My Review:
Poor, poor little Red Riding Hood... LoL
This was the first Fairy Tale retelling - I've always been kinda scared to dive into them because, well, c'mon... they're fairy tales. Scarlette was a GREAT way for me to break that habit!
I loved this novel! I was really surprised because I was thinking "How can someone REALLY bring fresh air to the retelling of Red Riding Hood... Is it even possible to NOT stay on the same track as the old fashion tale?" I was totally blown away. Seriously, Grimm would be proud, I do believe. LoL
I was on the edge of my seat just about the entire way through. The plot moves pretty quickly. I never once was bored or wanted to put it down. The mystery aspect just kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could. I started it at night after crawling in bed and finished it the next day. I wanted to know how it was going to end, who was the werewolf, the outcome of missing characters, who was the good guy/bad guy... I mean, oh my gosh. Totally on edge. Loved it!
The characters are really likable but you're torn between who to trust, who you want to trust, and who you can actually, really, honestly trust. Poor Scarlette! I felt bad for her just about the entire freaking time. It was just one thing after another! I was thinking to myself, "Jeeewiz! How many more hits can this girl take before she goes out and just lets the wolf eat her!"
There's a tiny romance aspect in this tale but that's definitely NOT the primary focus. It was kind of a breath of fresh air LOL I adore my romance novels but it's a nice change in pace to throw something else into the mix.
I don't want to leave spoilers so I know this is going to sound very vague (I'm sorry LoL) but I REALLY wanted a certain someone to be great... I really liked his character and really wanted to believe him... but I had no idea who to believe and was so NOT expecting what happened! Eeek!
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad disappointed but honestly, it worked out just fine. I really liked the ending even though I was taken by surprise. Ha.
Okay, so my Overall Rating: A Solid 4 Stars!
Cover: 5 Huge Stars - the cover is AMAZING!
Plot: 4 Stars
Characters: 4 Stars
Climax: 5 Stars
Ending: 4 Stars

Review: Renhala by Amy Joy Lutchen

Renhala
Renhala #1
by Amy Joy Lutchen
Mature Urban Fantasy
Published September 27, 2012

Synopsis via Goodreads:

Kailey Rooke, timid accountant, dedicated to philanthropic work, finds herself spiraling into a deep depression after she suffers a horrifyingly odd and humiliating assault, to only discover more of these freakish assaults occurring across the globe.

A chance discovery leads Kailey to a meeting with elderly Gunthreon, actual master of persuasion. Gunthreon, who seems to know too much of Kailey's history for her liking, opens Kailey's eyes to a coexisting realm she never knew existed: Renhala, while entrusting her with the knowledge of her newfound power as karmelean, serving as a beacon to the Higher Ones. Kailey slowly starts revealing new talents, and Gunthreon is fascinated with what she starts achieving.

She soon discovers that Renhala is in danger, and this danger has been leaking into her own realm. As she uncovers secrets within herself, and attempts to toughen up, she fuses with an unlikely band of fellow travelers (including a dragon, woodsprite, six-hundred-pound greble, her faithful female canine companion, and a "giver"), falls into an unexpected love triangle, deals with her sexy and flirtatious best friend’s “issues,” and finds the courage to master a new deadly weapon.

On her mission to save Renhala, Kailey will find herself running from life-threatening disasters, such as greble Tartarin, who likes to remind Kailey that when he catches her, he plans on eating her brains with ice cream; she'll run from the deadly meeples: small cute bunnies with talons and an undeniable thirst for imposing self-destruction on others. Kailey will also run into the possibility that a centuries-old Renhalan rumor is true, that advanced technology existing in Kailey's realm shortens all life spans.

As blood is shed and puzzles near completion, Kailey pulls from deep within herself, conjuring up mystical qualities that enable her to astonish as once predicted at her birth, but despite the newfound strength, Kailey will discover that monsters not only come in ugly packages, but can be easily disguised as those she has come to love and trust.

My Review:

I've been on a fantasy kick lately as far as reviews go. At least it seems that way, LoL.

I love urban fantasy novels. However, this one, because it's so complex, could almost go right into the fantasy category losing the "urban." I understand why it's an urban fantasy though - That's not intended to be a negative comment in this situation. The world & characters are just very complex. I loved the creativity & adored the crazy characters that Amy creates in this novel.

You see the female lead, Kailey, grow up in this novel - maybe grow up is the wrong term. She Matures - that's a better way to put it. She changes from a victim of a horrible attack to a strong lead female character.

When you read the synopsis, you don't get insight into the fact that this novel does hold a romantic aspect along with the action & fantasy world. Definitely a hot read in parts for mature audiences. Lately, I've gotten annoyed with most love triangles. But this one, I liked.  Oh the men... They're, I have to admit, swoonworthy. I want to know how this works out in the end. Definitely can't wait to see where book 2 goes.

I loved the majority of the characters - except Amber >_< Ug that girl got on my nerves. She's supposed to be Kailey's best friend but she's a horrible person. She takes jabs at Kailey on occasion too - I seriously wanted to jump through the book & knock her out. Grrrr.

Overall, really great novel that I think a lot of people would love so the word definitely needs to get out there about this one!

My Review:

I'm not sure where to go with my review of Return. I liked it, but then it wasn't for me... but I liked it... LoL Kinda contradicting myself right? I think I'm realizing that the older I get, the less I enjoy full on fantasy novels. I love the world that the authors create but my mind is scattered in so many different directions, that I find them harder to read lately because, as a reader, I paint the whole picture in my mind. It's getting a little exhausting LoL Yea yea, no old jokes okay. I'm not THAT old. >_<

Return is the first book I've read that's been full of ninja action so that was neat. I learned a few new words/terms and seriously dreamed about kicking butt one night. Ha.I loved all of the action that was packed into this novel. It's one thing after another.

Starting off, you're thrown right into it. I was a tad confused in the beginning - had to step back and say "wait, huh?" but the more I read, the more I caught on.The lead female character, Ashlyn, has been gone for three years and has missed quite a bit it seems. I liked the way that the author kinda threw in background blips here and there - that helped me understand everything better.

There are so many characters that I had a little trouble keeping up with who was who for a long time. However, I liked the characters. A few of them are very well defined, but then there's those that you really don't get a good feel for.

I enjoyed Charity's writing style. It flowed well for me while I was reading so it actually made the reading go by at a steady pace. Each time I put it down, I'd pick it back up and be thrown right back into the action. I loved that.

Action packed, lots of unexpected twists (gotta give it Charity on that one - great job), and a little romance.

Overall, a good read & good start to a series.
